NSF Nordic Research Opportunity 2012

For the third year, the DNRF announces the Nordic Research Opportunity in collaboration with the National Science Foundation (NSF). The program allows Graduate Research Fellowship recipients at the Ph.D. level to carry out a research visit at a DNRF Center of Excellence for a period of 2-12 months. The call (Dear Colleague Letter) can be found here .

This collaborative program intends to strengthen internationalization at the Centers of Excellence and to provide an opportunity for the Graduate Research Fellows to get a high-quality Nordic research experience. The Graduate Research Fellowship itself is a very prestigious funding program that grants three-year stipends for pursuing research-based Ph.D. or master’s degrees. Among previous Graduate Research Fellows are several Nobel Laureates. Read more about the GRF here.

The DNRF encourages the Centers of Excellence to explore the possibilities for hosting a Graduate Research Fellow, by contacting existing American collaborators. If you want to get in contact with potential Fellows, please contact the administration (see below) as the initial step.

The DNRF intends to accept the Fellows that the NSF finds worthy for funding upon merit review. All Centers of Excellence are eligible to act as hosts as long as they fall within the fields of research funded by the NSF. Each Center of Excellence will receive an attractive supplemental grant of 34,560 DKK per month, covering research and education costs associated with the stay as well as additional living costs for the Graduate Research Fellow.

Only Graduate Research Fellowship recipients funded by the NSF who have completed at least one year of their Ph.D. study are eligible for funding. It is the responsibility of the Graduate Research Fellow to carry out the application procedure with the NSF and secure a letter of collaboration from the Danish host.

The deadline is January 20, 2012. The research visits can start between June 1 and December 1, 2012.
